Tis the season for dry winter scalp, also known as seasonal dandruff. Cold temperatures and dry indoor heat can wreak havoc with your skin and scalp. These conditions can turn a normal healthy scalp environment into one that is dry, itchy and flaky. Here are a few helpful tips to help keep this problem at bay.
Remove Surface Flakes: Getting into a good scalp regimen when the temperatures drop can usually do the trick. This process starts with a good exfoliating shampoo to help eliminate surface flakes. We recommend our P2 by Philip Pelusi Roots for Men Exfoliating Treatment Shampoo. It contains the skincare exfoliant Salicylic Acid which helps to gently lift and remove sluggish dead skin cells that lay on the surface of the scalp.
The more persistent the flake problem, the more frequently to use the shampoo. It’s gentle enough to use everyday if need. Also, if the problem is more severe, simply leave the shampoo on a few minutes under a plastic cap to allow it to penetrate more deeply. Remove the cap, gently re-lather the scalp and rinse thoroughly. Tip! This shampoo treatment can also be applied to a loofa puff to cleanse dry feet, legs and arms while in the shower.
Help Keep New Flakes from Forming: Moisture is the key here. Dry seasonal dandruff usually starts because there isn’t enough moisture in the scalp due to the dry winter air surrounding it. The solution? Add ingredients to the scalp that help hold moisture in and therefore will help keep it from evaporating as quickly. Start with a once or twice weekly deep conditioning treatment. We recommend our P2 by Philip Pelusi Deep Hydrating Hair and Scalp Conditioner.
It’s powerhouse humectant, Hyaluronic Acid, helps to hold onto moisture just as it does in rose petals and other plants it is naturally found in. The effects can last from 5 – 10 days depending on how dry the hair and scalp are. Tip! This conditioner can also be used as a spot hydrator. Use sparingly, just trap a tiny bit onto a dry spot on the scalp anytime needed. Also, it can be applied to feet and hands as a wintertime moisturizer as well.
Make the Switch: When the temps start to drop switch over to a more hydrating shampoo and conditioner for just the winter months. Try our P2 MoistureSheen Shampoo and MoistureSheen Conditioner. Neither will weigh the hair down as they both contain the weightless humectant Cassia Angustifolia Seed. Hydration and smoothness but with zero weight.
Hair styles full, with lush body while the scalp is left feeling soft and pliable. If using in conjunction with the P2 Roots for Men Exfoliating Shampoo Treatment, cleanse with the P2 Exfoliate first, rinse, then follow with a second shampoo with the P2 MoistureSheen. Condition with either the P2 Deep or P2 MoistureSheen Conditioner.
