Space Buns

Space out poolside this summer with this season’s hottest hair trend; the 90’s throwback hairstyle, Space Buns! In the 1990’s Gwen Stefani and Baby Spice put this hairstyle on the map but the summer music festival Coachella brought this trend back this season in a big way. This look is something that be worn as simple and easy as a poolside hairdo or as fancy as a red carpet updo as worn by Janelle Monae at the 2017 Critics Choice Awards.

Space Buns can be worn a couple of different ways, all easy to style. First, two simple buns can be created at the top of the left and right side of the head. Part the hair down the center from front to back, no worrying about getting a straight line, then grab each section and form each bun. A second way to wear this trend is half-up half-down simply by creating the same 2 top knots but leaving the bottom half of the hair out and maybe even a little of the front fringe area as well. And last, the same two knots can be created but with two French Braids starting at the front hairline leading up to those knots.

All of these looks can be easily created with the right hair products. For forming Space Buns on dry hair, use a flexible hair groom that never dries stiff or crisp. Try P2 by Philip Pelusi Honey. This is one of Philip’s most versatile products with one of its most popular uses being forming updo’s. Part hair off into two sections, dab a bit of P2 Honey on your fingertips and start forming those Space Buns. P2 Honey contains actual honey derivatives that not only hydrate the hair but help grip and control the hair while forming it. No hair slipping out means less styling struggles!

When poolside, this look can be thrown together easily with a combination styling groom and sun guard. Try P2 by Philip Pelusi Potion. It’s Philip Pelusi proprietary Matrix Blend of Matricaria, Asafetida, Blackberry and more that help filter harmful Ultra Violet Rays while also acting as hair color protecting antioxidants, hair strengtheners and hydrators. This helps to protect hair and scalp while in the sun plus its detangling and de-frizzing actions help smooth hair and control fly-aways while forming Space Buns. Apply a nickel to quarter size amount from the scalp to the mid-shaft and then an additional dose to the rest of the length of the hair down to the ends. Use a wide tooth comb to help detangle and distribute product. Style Space Buns with the same styling techniques as described except on damp hair!
