The Philip Pelusi Chic Geek ~ Less is Not always More, especially with Ingredients

Posted on Posted in Chic Geek

by Nikki B ~ Product Education Director

The well-known phrase “less is more” can be spot on when it comes to certain things in fashion but absolutely not true when it comes to building a hair care formula.  Let’s explain…

Today, many haircare and skincare companies tout the idea that fewer ingredients somehow means a product formula is simpler and therefore more natural.  They allude to the idea that products containing longer ingredient lists are somehow bad and full of chemicals or bad ingredients.  That might be true of other product manufacturers but NOT true of products created by Philip Pelusi.

Less ingredients means simply that there are less ingredients in their formulas.  And anything containing less ingredients is simply less expensive to make, period.  Again, this is NOT how Philip makes his products.  One prime example of how “more is more” at Philip Pelusi is the Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Proprietary Blend of 35 USDA Certified Organic Ingredients.

Philip’s Tela 35 USDA Certified Organic Ingredient Blend is indeed rare in the haircare makertplace.  Philip’s precision-made blend of 35 USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) Certified Organic antioxidants, anti-irritants, weightless moisturizers, strengthening proteins, super fruits, sun protection, and anti-color fade ingredients deliver optimum health and unprecedented anti-aging, healthy hair benefits.  And is threaded throughout the entire Tela product line.

This magnificent blend not only amps up the fabulous results to the hair and scalp but also makes the formulas much more expensive to make.  But Philip has always held a standard of a 100% commitment to quality.  His formulas need to perform perfectly for his Stylists and Guests to get just the right results in the hair.  Drumroll please!  Here are those 35 ingredients…

Tela Proprietary Blend of 35 USDA Certified Organic Ingredients: Organic Apricot (Prunus Armeniaca), Organic Burdock (Arctium Lappa) Root, Organic Bilberry (Vaccinum Myrtillis), Organic Bupleurum (Bupleurum Falcatum), Organic Carrot (Daucus Carota), Organic Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum  Muriflorum), Organic Chinese Orchid (Dendrobium Nobile), Organic Chinese Giant Knotweed (Polygonum Cuspidatum), Organic Dandelion (Taraxcum Monogolicum), Organic Dong Quai (Angelica Sinensis), Organic Fig (Ficus Carica), Organic Fo–ti (Polygonum Multiflorum), Organic Forsythia (Forsythia Suspensa), Organic Ginkgo Biloba (Ginkgo Biloba), Organic Grape (Vitis Vinifera), Organic Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis), Organic Horsetail (Equisetum Arvene), Organic Kiwi (Actinidia Chinensis), Organic Ku Shen (Sophora Flavenscens), Organic Licorice (Glycyrrhiza Uralensis), Organic Milk Thistle (Silybum Marianum), Organic Milk Vetch (Astragalus Membranaceus), Organic Mongolia Oak (Quercus Mongolica), Organic Oolong Tea (Camellia Sinensis), Organic Pine Bark (Pinus Tabulaeformis), Organic Plum (Prunus Domestica), Organic Pomegranate (Punica Granatum), Organic Reishi Mushroom (Ganoderma Lucidum), Organic Rhodiola (Rhodiola Rosea), Organic Solomon’s Seal (Polygonatum Officianalis), Organic Tangerine (Citrus Reticulate), Organic Tomato (Lycopersicon Esculentum), Organic Water Celery (Oenanthe Javanica), Organic White Tea (Camellia Sinensis), Organic Wolfberry (Lycium Barbum)

BuZZworthy @ Philip Pelusi ~ Timeless 1992

Philip Pelusi shares… “Loved this cut on this model, the strong asymmetrical shape and angles surrounding her delicate facial features.  And a great haircut for fine, thinner hair types, making the hair look thicker, with movement.  And the layers are so versatile so depending on the styling product applied and how the angles are shifted or pieced out really changes the look and feel of the cut.  It’s timeless really, a perfect look today, low maintenance too.  Today, I’m imaging it with creative colors like our Trend Team have shown recently.  I’m really looking forward to the Trend Team presenting the Gothic Nuvo Collection.  We are a Playground for Hair!”

Trend Alert ~ Channel Mia Wallace’s Blunt Bob for Fall 2024

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

by Nikki ~ Product Education Director

One could say a Space Odyssey contrasts the 1990’s for hair and ingredient trends for Fall 2024.  One reason is a big consumer trend for the love of new technologies such as AI, Alexa, Shopify, and even robots to assist in just about everything from creating a presentation in Canva, to face recognition security, to shopping online.

Consumers, even when trepidatious, feel this makes everything faster, more efficient, and smarter.  So it makes sense that today’s consumers are also demanding their hair care product and ingredient technology follow suit.

Now juxtapose this to today’s Fall 2024 hair trends, which harken back to the 1990’s.  The hair and even clothing popular today makes us think we’re living a real-life episode of Friends or channeling our inner Mia Wallace (Pulp Fiction).  At Philip Pelusi, we marry this 90’s rebirth with what we feel is our smarter hair care technology to date. “Alexa, help, I need micro bangs with Einstein’s IQ, stat!”

2024 is considered the year of the bob by many beauty blogs.  Although one could argue the 1990’s would hold this honor.  One look that we find most intriguing is the 90’s bob revival of the Blunt Bob, now coined by some as the Prada Bob.

We especially love this cut when paired with Blunt Micro Bangs, once made famous when worn in the 90’s era by super model Linda Evangelista among others.  We love this bold striking look, the sleek styling, and strong shape especially when paired with buttercream blonde hair color.  The look can be worn with or without the micro bangs but we feel this makes the chin length haircut even more eye catching.  What’s paramount to this look is healthy, shiny hair, critical to create the final look and movement of the hair.

This is where new technology can take hair health to a whole new level.  So we have been recommending our Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Liquid IQ Smart Bond Pro Treatment during salon visits and its companion Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Liquid IQ Smart Bond Elixir as an at-home maintenance product.

Tela Liquid IQ is a hair restructure marvel that skillfully transforms hair through a deep renewal process, unveiling revitalized, stronger, healthier hair.  Tela Liquid IQ reinforces the internal bond structure within the hair cortex resulting in improved strength and elasticity that is more resilient and less prone to breakage.  Hair styles more easily and lasts longer.  So you can see how Liquid IQ elevates the overall quality of the hair but also the value of the Stylist’s hair artistry.

Behind the scenes in developing these products, we discovered a unique “Gemini” Surfactant, a biosimilar ingredient relative to natural ceramides.  It uniquely creates a very fine emulsion capable of delivering not only beneficial natural lipids but also can be combined with keratins and other well-known bonding actives by chaperoning them rapidly deep within the hair shaft.  Hence, we describe this action as our Philip Pelusi Chaperone Delivery System.

In addition, the likeness of the chaperone molecule to both cosmetic lipids and polypeptides allows it to move quickly and throughout all of the major structural components of hair.  This results in chaperoning water-soluble bonding agents, restructuring polymers moisture binding agents, and color protectants throughout hair’s structure from cuticle to cortex.

We feel this is a truly revolutionary advancement in hair treatment, because for the first-time restructurizing agents are fully presented; including hair bond multipliers best delivered to cortex structures, conditioning and structural polymers reinforce damaged keratin, and conditioning and structural amino acids, polypeptides and moisture binders restructure keratin microfibrils.  Bottom line, Tela Liquid IQ dramatically improves the feel, look, and performance of hair.

We note some definite differences between the in-salon and take-home products as far as potency and fragrance.  The in-salon Tela Liquid IQ Smart Bond Pro Treatment is fragrance-free and has a heightened potency and increased concentration of about 5 times more effective than Tela Liquid IQ Smart Bond Elixir.

This retail formulation was purposely created to maintain results in between your Guest’s in-salon Tela Liquid IQ Pro Treatments.  It differs than the pro version in that it is intentionally designed to have a consumer-friendly lower potency level.  Plus it contains the signature Tela Peppermint fragrance.  This effective ingredient is great for calming the scalp and the senses.

Uniquely, both Liquid IQ products are so easy to use.  We have found this is beyond appealing to both today’s Stylists and Guests.  You simply apply the proper amount of Tela Liquid IQ Elixir and move through onto clean, conditioned hair from root to end, do not rinse.  Next, layer on any styling products the texture requires, and begin the heat styling process which activates the ingredients.

To customize for styling the sleek look of the blunt bob with micro-bangs, apply a heat protectant product that gives the hair a super reflective shine.  We are recommending a few mists of our P2 by Philip Pelusi BrilliantHair.  A little goes a long way.  Its USDA Certified Organic Baobab Oil helps protect, hydrate and add lustrous shine.  P2 BrilliantHair is never heavy, stiff or sticky.  Hair is easily blown out smooth and hair swings and moves showing off the haircut.

P2 BrilliantHair can be applied to wet or dry hair of any texture for instant shine.  And for thicker texture blowouts, a little trick is to mist this product on your paddle or boar bristle brush.  This helps cut down styling time and tension as the brush much more easily glides through the hair.
