Philip Pelusi Trend Tip ~ Half Up Hairstyle

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

The Half Up Hairstyle Trend is all the rage on Instagram and style blogs for Fall 2019!  This is a front half of the hair up and back half of the hair down look!  It can be worn dressy such as for a wedding, but the big trend is a casual, tossed up look.  The hair should look extremely healthy and have some wave to it.  But the actual style looks like it the hair was gathered from temple to temple or slightly lower then twisted or knotted up at the crown of the head in a big hurry.

Prep The Hair:  This is an easy look to create and is perfect for second day hair when in a hurry.  Hair is actually easier to style up if the hair is a little less than clean.  But whether working with freshly shampooed or late in the day hair, add some texture to make hair easier to work with.  Try P2 by Philip Pelusi RefresHair Texture Spray.  This combination hair refresher and texture creator adds just the right amount of flexible grip to the hair to make it much easier to style up.  Lightly mist over hair and either brush thru or lightly scrunch if creating more of a roughed-up look.  It has a fabulous scent of White Tea and Thyme and makes hair smell heavenly!

Catch a Wave!  If starting with freshly shampooed hair, add some body by applying a wave enhancing, texture creating product to damp hair.  Try P2 ReCurl Smart Styling Treatment.  This totally unique product works from the inside of the hair depositing a proprietary texture building plant derived micro-emulsion that helps add spring to naturally wavy and curly hair plus builds body in any hair texture.  Allow hair to air dry or diffuse dry the hair with some light scrunching.  It can even be applied to damp hair, loosely braided and allowed to dry overnight.  This makes for an easy Half Up style creation the next morning.

Neatness is a no-no!  No neat partings here.  Once hair is dry, use fingers to section hair off from temple to temple or even slightly lower.  And it’s just fine to leave some hair out above the ears, meaning you don’t have to pull all of the hair back from the front hairline.  Use small amounts of a flexible, non-stiffening hair groom to help control the hair and add some separation.  Try P2 Honey.  This honey-based product has a natural honey scent plus helps make manipulating the hair easier.  Gather the hair around the crown of the head and tie off in a hairband and stop there.  Or once hair is in the hairband, twist around the base and pin into place.  Make sure to leave a few pieces of hair loose from the band.  This trend needs to look a bit disheveled to stay modern looking.  Add a few bends with a wide barrel curling iron if hair needs a bit more separation and movement.

Philip Pelusi Trend Tip ~ Disco Waves

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

Get your hair groove on this season with the big hair texture trend for this Fall, Disco Waves.  These take many forms; from natural waves and curls, to curls set on hot rollers, to iron-crimped waves, to finger waves.  This trend can be worn on any length or density hair type but works best on shoulder length or longer hair.  And whether the curl is natural or is artificially created via heat tools, frizz and heat damage are two things we can help avoid with an injection of some skincare ingredients into the hair styling routine!

Hydrating Oils are everywhere these days when it comes to skincare products.  And at Philip Pelusi, having always included skincare ingredients into our formulas, have a haircare hydrating oil equivalent with our P2 by Philip Pelusi Polish and P2 Brilliant Hair products.  Both contain our proprietary Pelusi Bio Polymer Complex consisting of Organic Baobab Seed Protein and Organic Baobab Seed Oil.  Our sustainably derived Organic Baobab Oil is cold-pressed, meaning it retains its nutritional value during processing, and it helps hydrate, create shine and heat protect the hair and scalp.  It is rich with Vitamin D3 and 5 Fatty Acids; again, ingredients once only reserved when speaking about skincare products.  Both P2 Polish and P2 Brilliant Hair can be applied to both wet and dry hair.  Reserve P2 Polish for coarser, thicker hair types while P2 Brilliant can used universally by everyone.

Ceramides once only used in face and neck treatments, can be a huge advantage in helping lock in color molecules and help protect the integrity of the hair.  Philip’s proprietary Hydro-Charged Pelusi Ceramide Complex, Patent Pending, helps rebuild, strengthen, moisturize and seal in color.  It’s in our P2 ReCurl Smart Styling Treatment.  This incredible product is designed to reach deep below the hair’s surface helping boost natural wave and curl making it stylist easier and faster and last longer throughout the day.  It cannot make straight hair curly, but it gives the hair the extra texture it needs to take and hold a curl better when using heat tools or braiding or setting the hair for curly or wavy effect.

Antioxidants and Vitamins are essential to any good skincare routine, often reserved for facial serums, and touted as ingredient warriors fighting against free radical pollutants that break down the integrity of the skin.  They can do the same for the scalp and hair fabric helping protect against the oxidation of hair color which results in faded, dull looking hair.  Vitamins C, E and A, Sunflower, Lemongrass and Green Tea are just a few of the many antioxidants and vitamins threaded throughout our entire P2 product line working to protect and fortify the hair and scalp.

Philip Pelusi Trend Tip – Living Coral Hair

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

What hues come to mind when thinking of living coral in the ocean or the sky at sunset?  That beautiful pink-orange sorbet color, intense but soft.  Living Coral is Pantone’s 2019 Color of The Year and is also one of this Fall’s most popular hair color trends.  Seen on stars like Rhianna, Julia Roberts and Busy Philipps, its fresh and new and depending how warm or cool the color is steered, it can be worn on just about any skin tone.

But because this is a double process color, lifting color first then toning with the Living Coral hue, hair will need some extra TLC to help maintain the pigment.  Enter today’s skin care technology via hair care to help out!  And as always, Philip is way ahead of the trend curve having put skin care ingredients into his proprietary haircare products since day one!

For example, Ceramides, once only used in face and neck treatments, can be a huge advantage in helping lock in color molecules and help protect the integrity of the hair.  Philip’s proprietary Hydro-Charged Pelusi Ceramide Complex, Patent Pending, helps rebuild, strengthen, moisturize and seal in color.  It’s present in all P2 by Philip Pelusi Ultimate Shampoos, Conditioners and Smart Styling Treatments and benefits all hair textures.

Additionally, the skincare moisture binding powerhouse Hyaluronic Acid, now being touted by some as a newfound ingredient, was almost 50 years ago put in our P2 Deep Hydrating Hair and Scalp Treatment and P2 Lite Leave In Conditioner to help improve the condition of the hair and scalp.  Hyaluronic Acid draws and binds moisture to whatever surface it has been applied to, meaning it can be a huge moisture replacement tool for double processed hair such as in the Living Coral Hair Color trend.

Ultraviolet Light Filters are another category of ingredients once only thought of for preserving the skin on the face and body.  But hair can get a sunburn just like the skin, causing dryness, color loss and breakage.  UV rays degrade the hair fabric creating potholes through which color molecules can escape.  So why reserve daily sun protection for the face or body only?

There are Ultraviolet Light Filters in every Philip Pelusi product making them a must for anyone investing in a color service.  Specifically, our P2 Potion contains Philip’s proprietary Pelusi Matrix Blend of 6 UV Filters, Matricaria, Asafetida, Horseradish, Sage, Blackberry and Grape Seed, that also run throughout many other products in Philip’s P2 line.

Philip Pelusi Trend Tip ~ How to Properly Condition Your Hair

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

How to Properly Condition Your Hair by Nikki B.

Just as there are several factors to consider to properly shampoo your hair and scalp, the same is true for conditioning.  The texture of the hair, whether fine, medium or coarse.  The length, type of color and most importantly the condition of the hair, meaning the amount of damage such as dryness and split ends.  Also, the level of dryness on the scalp should be considered as well.  Let’s delve into this plus the proper conditioning process to get the best results.

Get the right products: First on the list is to use the products that are right for you.  The best way to find out what to use is to get a consultation from a hair professional trained to analyze your hair texture and scalp.  Make an appointment today with your Skill Certified Philip Pelusi Stylist for a free consultation.

They will determine aforementioned factors and then will create a personal Philip Pelusi Product System for you, the proper shampoo(s) and conditioner(s) to help improve the condition of your hair and scalp as well as help enhance your hair texture.  Hair also needs both protein for hair strength and moisture for hydration to be properly conditioned.

Be Strong:  Color, chemicals, heat styling, sun and chlorine all damage hair.  They chip away to the outer and eventually inner layer of the hair making hair feel rough, loose shine, tangle and not style properly.  Also, once hair grows longer than 1 inch, it also starts to lose strength.  So, we first recommend adding a boost of strength with our P2 by Philip Pelusi Xtreme Liquid Repair Treatment Spray.

This incredible product is like hair in a bottle meaning it contains 3 different types of Gluten Free Plant Proteins, Wheat, Soy and Corn, that help rebuild hair from the inside.  Mist onto wet, freshly cleansed hair after every shampoo on any hair type.

Next Add Moisture:  Next, layer on one of our P2 by Philip Pelusi Instant Conditioners depending on your hair texture.  Philip created a wide array of conditioners to enhance your hair texture, such as build body or reduce volume, plus they all protect color while hydrating the hair and scalp.  Apply each time you cleanse your hair.

Also, for dry scalps and extremely dry hair, we recommend our P2 Deep Moisturizing Hair & Scalp Treatment.  It contains the high-end skin care moisture binding powerhouse Hyaluronic Acid to help restore hydration to the hair and scalp.  Use instead of your instant conditioner once or twice a week depending on level of dryness.

How to condition:  Mist on your P2 Xtreme then right on top of that layer your conditioner choice, massage in, leave on 3 – 10 minutes then rinse thoroughly.  If the scalp is very dry, start your conditioner at the scalp by physically distributing the conditioner throughout the scalp with your hands, massage in and work towards the ends.

But normally it’s the ends of the hair that are the driest.  If so, apply conditioner to the ends of your hair then work it upwards towards your scalp.  For a more intense treatment, don a plastic cap while in the shower to help trap the heat to help ingredients penetrate more deeply and quickly.

Philip Pelusi Trend Tip – Make the Grade ~ College Hair Care

Make the Grade ~ College Hair Care – by Nikki B.

Going away to college can be a very exciting time in life but not so much for one’s hair health.  Late night study sessions, stress, rough water and believe it or not, too many ponytails can sometimes give your hair a failing grade!

Clean Slate:  Many campuses have well water or rough city water with lots of minerals that can build up on the hair making it unruly, tough to detangle, fade color and lack shine.  So, keep a bottle of mineral removing shampoo in your shower tote and use it a few times a week to keep this buildup at bay.  Try our P2 by Philip Pelusi Clarify Shampoo Treatment.

Although this deep cleansing shampoo was originally formulated to remove chlorine from the hair, it also contains high-tech mineral removing ingredients that gently clarify the hair without stripping color.  Tip!  Leave shampoo on while in the shower for a deeper penetrating treatment and follow with a P2 Conditioner to enhance your texture.

In a Rush:  Too busy to cleanse?  Once or twice a week, skip your shampoo and go right to applying our P2 Clenz Crème No Sudsing Cleansing Conditioner.  It lightly cleanses with Philip’s exclusive Sugar Cane Cleanse microemulsion and is also specially formulated with Philip’s proprietary Pelusi Bio Polymer Complex containing Organic Baobab Seed Protein and Organic Baobab Seed Oil to help improve hair’s condition and texture.

Late Start:  Running late for class can be a common occurrence on campus.  And reaching for a hair band to create a quick ponytail style can be a good option but not always.  Wearing a ponytail day after day, week after week and sometimes year after year can cause real stress and even follicle damage to the front hairline.  This can cause long term hair loss in some cases.  Instead, reach for a hair refreshing mist!  Try our P2 RefresHair Smart Styling Texture Spray.

Sunflower Extract helps hydrate, calming static while White Tea and Thyme freshen hair’s scent.  This incredible multitask spray acts as a lightweight hairspray and heat protector so you can use it to reshape and boost your style.  Lightly mist onto dry hair, brush through, fingerstyle, lightly scrunch or throw in a few twists from your flat or curling iron to refresh your look.  It’s so lightweight and dries in seconds.  Hair stays pliable never stiff or sticky.

Multitask:  If late night study sessions are your thing, try this trick to maximize your time.  Cleanse in the evening and apply a weightless hair groom that creates the perfect airdry style!  Try our P2 Potion Smart Styling Treatment Sun Guard and Groom.  This incredibly lightweight groom serves as a leave-in conditioner, detangler, shine creator and color protector in one.  Its unique formula glides through the hair, dries featherlight, never greasy or heavy.

Apply then comb or finger through the hair, let airdry or form hair into loose braids then airdry.  Take out the braids for a carefree, loose wavy look!  P2 Potion can be applied to wet or dry hair plus gives the hair and scalp some UV protection while walking around campus with Philip’s proprietary Pelusi Matrix Blend of plant derived ultraviolet filters.

Philip Pelusi Trend Tip – How to Properly Shampoo Your Hair

How to Properly Shampoo Your Hair – by Nikki B.

Sometimes when we get in the shower we go on autopilot, rushing through or daydreaming while shampooing our hair.  But there is a proper way to cleanse to help support a healthy scalp environment and lush beautiful hair.

Get the right products: First on the list is to use the products that are right for your hair and scalp type.  The best way to find out what to use is to get a consultation from a hair professional trained to analyze your hair texture and scalp.  Make an appointment today with your Skill Certified Philip Pelusi Stylist for a free consultation.

They will determine whether your hair is fine, medium or coarse, whether its thickness is dense or sparse, color protection needs, the level of dryness or weakness of your hair strands and more.  They will also check your scalp and consult with you about possible problems such as dandruff or an overly oily scalp.  Then they will create a personal Philip Pelusi Product System for you, the proper shampoo(s) and conditioner(s) to help improve the condition of your hair and scalp as well as help enhance your hair texture.  Try our wide array of P2 by Philip Pelusi Shampoos and Conditioners and our Rx Shampoos for niche problems such as dandruff.

How to cleanse: First, make sure your hair is soaking wet before applying shampoo.  Our cleansers are very highly concentrated and contain zero water.  Hair needs to be completely wet in order to move the shampoo through your strands.

Next, apply a dime to quarter size amount of shampoo depending on the amount of hair you have.  More hair means more shampoo is needed.  Physically distribute the shampoo to various areas of your scalp.  Don’t just plop the shampoo on top of your head.  Methodically gently massage the shampoo over all areas of your scalp spending several minutes cleansing your entire head.  Be sure to get down to the scalp with your fingertip pads.  Use your palms to gently move the shampoo down your hair strands.  No raking or snarling your hair, be gentle as hair is most fragile when it is wet.

Don’t look for a lot of bubbles, this just means a gentler cleanse.  P2 by Philip Pelusi Shampoos are Sulfate Free and instead cleanse with Philip’s proprietary Pelusi Sugar Cane Cleanse Blend that gently cleanses with Sugar Cane, Sugar Maple, Apple Seed and Bilberry.

If hair has a lot of oil and product in it, you might need to rinse and shampoo again.  But if you cleanse daily, this is generally not needed.  Rinse hair and scalp thoroughly, gently lifting and moving hair so that you thoroughly rinse your scalp as well.  And as a rule of thumb, you want to cleanse hair from root to end and condition the opposite way, starting at the ends and working up towards the scalp.

How frequently to shampoo:  Generally, the longer, thicker and coarser the hair the more time should and could be spend in between shampoos.  Consult with your Skill Certified Philip Pelusi Stylist for guidance on how frequently you should be cleansing.  Also, for in between shampooing, you can reach for our P2 Clenz Crème No-Sudsing Cleansing Conditioner to use in shower in leu of a traditional shampoo.

Or try our P2 RefresHair Smart Styling Texture Spray.  Its Sunflower Extract helps hydrate, calming static while White Tea and Thyme freshen hair’s scent.  This incredible multitask spray acts as a lightweight hairspray and heat protector so you can use it to reshape and boost your style as well.  Lightly mist onto hair, brush through, fingerstyle or throw in a few twists from your flat or curling iron to refresh your look.  It’s so lightweight and dries in seconds.  Hair stays pliable never stiff or sticky.

Philip Pelusi Trend Tip – Sand Hair Color

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

Sand Hair Color by Nikki B.

Sun and sand are big summertime attractions.  But this summer season, so is Sand Hair Color; where the cool crystal colors of the beach meet balayage.  This is the perfect summertime hair color with a mix of golden blonde, sand and caramel brown hues plus low maintenance touch ups to keep it looking great all summer long.

Image: Christine McMillen

Sand Hair Color works best on medium to long length, smooth to slightly wavy hair textures as with most balayage styles.  This also helps show off this trend’s windblown ‘beachy’ look as well.  To start, it’s helpful if the hair’s natural base color is light to medium brunette.  You need this deeper root backdrop to show off the painted multicolored sandy ribbon highlights.  Dashes of warm blonde can be part of this hair color composition, but it is predominately a cool toned color compilation.  And once the initial, more time consuming, color application is done touch ups are a breeze with various pieces being touched up or added throughout the summer months.

But caring for this color creation will take a bit of homework.  It’s the day to day maintenance that makes all the difference in preserving a color investment.  To start, we recommend our revolutionary color protecting shampoo and conditioner P2 by Philip Pelusi Fade de Phy Shampoo and Fade de Phy Conditioner.  Willow Bark helps protect from color fadage up to 80% in between touch ups.

Image: Rachel at Robinson

We also recommend applying our in-shower hair strengthener P2 DailyHaiRx Xtreme Hair Repair after every shampoo.  Its plant protein microemulsion helps lock in the color molecules as well as help repair hair color and heat styling damage.  Mist onto freshly shampooed wet hair and top with P2 Fade de Phy Conditioner, leave on while showering, then rinse thoroughly.

When in the sun, color preservation gets tougher so apply a sun protecting groom.  Hair can get a sunburn just like the skin.  Ultraviolet Rays, that break down collagen and elastin in the skin, also erode protein in the hair, causing dryness, breakage and color loss.  We recommend our P2 Potion.  It contains Philip’s proprietary P2 Matrix Blend of 6 natural plant derived UV Filters, including Matricaria and Asafetida, to help protect hair and scalp while creating easier detangling.  Toss a wide toothed comb and a bottle of this lightweight, hydrating hair groom into your beach bag.  Apply to hair before any sun exposure and then again after getting out of the water.  It can be applied to wet or dry hair and dries light as a feather with zero buildup!
