Trend Alert ~ Amethyst Purple ~ by Nikki B.

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

One of the biggest fashion color trends for this winter to spring season is Amethyst Purple!  This purple haze craze is not just fueled by people stuck at home and perhaps looking for a big change, even if its just when they look in the mirror.  This trend is so much more!

Purple evokes a certain range of positive emotions too!  Purple signifies empowerment, luxury, nobility, wisdom, creativity, and magic!  This beautiful hue is being worn in a wide range of intensities from deep purple to an iridescent purply frosted pink pastel.  Choose from an all over more solid look to ombre’ where just the mid-shaft to the ends get a punch of the purple hue.

Holding onto these vibrant hues is very much dependent upon good at-home maintenance.  Exposure to water is the number-one color fader, so try skipping your traditional shampooing routine at least every other day and instead substitute a no-suds skincare-like cleanser.  Try P2 Clenz Crème No Sudsing Cleansing Conditioner that lightly cleanses surface debris while never leaving hair in a too-clean state to help preserve color.  P2 Clenz Crème is also specially formulated with Philip’s new exclusive Pelusi Bio Polymer Complex containing Organic Baobab Seed Protein and Organic Baobab Seed Oil for strength and shine.

Another way to steer clear of water exposure is to maintain your look in between shampoos with a hair refresher.  That’s right skip your shampoo routine entirely and instead apply a color protecting product that refreshes the scent and shine of your hair.  Try P2 RefresHair.  Its incredible White Tea and Thyme fragrance makes hair smell fresh while Sunflower helps create lots of shine.

And to help maintain an Amethyst tone in between salons visits, we recommend using a color enhancing conditioner along with your regular conditioning routine.  Try P2 Color Boost Conditioner in Violet Orchid.  Its sheer bright purple hue can be specially blended by your skill certified Philip Pelusi Stylist to hit just the right level of color intensity.

And when exposed to summer sunlight, also apply some sun protection to your hair.  Apply a sunlight-filtering groom before and during all sun exposure to help lessen the color-fading effects of the sun.  Try P2 Potion with its myriad of hair hydrating natural ultra-violet ray filters such as Matricaria and Asafetida to help protect these precious hair color molecules!

Trend Alert ~ Winter Scalp: Solutions for Seasonal Dandruff ~ by Nikki B.

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

Tis the season for dry winter scalp, also known as seasonal dandruff.  Cold temperatures and dry indoor heat can wreak havoc with your skin and scalp.  These conditions can turn a normal healthy scalp environment into one that is dry, itchy and flaky.  Here are a few helpful tips to help keep this problem at bay.

Remove Surface Flakes:  Getting into a good scalp regimen when the temperatures drop can usually do the trick.  This process starts with a good exfoliating shampoo to help eliminate surface flakes.  We recommend our P2 by Philip Pelusi Roots for Men Exfoliating Treatment Shampoo.  It contains the skincare exfoliant Salicylic Acid which helps to gently lift and remove sluggish dead skin cells that lay on the surface of the scalp.

The more persistent the flake problem, the more frequently to use the shampoo.  It’s gentle enough to use everyday if need.  Also, if the problem is more severe, simply leave the shampoo on a few minutes under a plastic cap to allow it to penetrate more deeply.  Remove the cap, gently re-lather the scalp and rinse thoroughly.  Tip!  This shampoo treatment can also be applied to a loofa puff to cleanse dry feet, legs and arms while in the shower.

Help Keep New Flakes from Forming:  Moisture is the key here.  Dry seasonal dandruff usually starts because there isn’t enough moisture in the scalp due to the dry winter air surrounding it.  The solution?  Add ingredients to the scalp that help hold moisture in and therefore will help keep it from evaporating as quickly.  Start with a once or twice weekly deep conditioning treatment.  We recommend our P2 by Philip Pelusi Deep Hydrating Hair and Scalp Conditioner.

It’s powerhouse humectant, Hyaluronic Acid, helps to hold onto moisture just as it does in rose petals and other plants it is naturally found in.  The effects can last from 5 – 10 days depending on how dry the hair and scalp are.  Tip!  This conditioner can also be used as a spot hydrator.  Use sparingly, just trap a tiny bit onto a dry spot on the scalp anytime needed.  Also, it can be applied to feet and hands as a wintertime moisturizer as well.

Make the Switch:  When the temps start to drop switch over to a more hydrating shampoo and conditioner for just the winter months.  Try our P2 MoistureSheen Shampoo and MoistureSheen Conditioner.  Neither will weigh the hair down as they both contain the weightless humectant Cassia Angustifolia Seed.  Hydration and smoothness but with zero weight.

Hair styles full, with lush body while the scalp is left feeling soft and pliable.  If using in conjunction with the P2 Roots for Men Exfoliating Shampoo Treatment, cleanse with the P2 Exfoliate first, rinse, then follow with a second shampoo with the P2 MoistureSheen.  Condition with either the P2 Deep or P2 MoistureSheen Conditioner.

Trend Alert ~ Holiday Hair – Quick Curly Styles Edition ~ by Nikki B.

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

When it comes to holiday hairstyles for curly hair textures, it can often mean a trip to the salon.  And for sure a professionally created style will give you that perfect look!  But if you are looking for a quick, easy, DIY hairdo for celebrating the holidays, even if you never leave the house or its via ZOOM, here are three easy options.

Chic Center or Deep Side Part:  A statement part can really set off a chic hairstyle.  And this is easy to achieve with a mix of curly hair texture favorites such as P2 by Philip Pelusi Potion and P2 Soft Wax.  Apply P2 Potion throughout the entire head of clean, damp hair for detangling.

Then mix equal parts of P2 Potion and P2 Soft Wax in the palm of your hands working with a quarter size amount total.  Apply to damp hair concentrating on the area to be parted.  Using a wide tooth comb form the part either dead-center or a deep side part at either the left or right widows peak.  Air dry or diffuse dry hair.

P2 Potion adds hydration with Philip’s proprietary Matrix Blend while P2 Soft Wax adds control with a shampoo-soluble emulsifying wax plus moisturizing Hyaluronic Acid.

Curly Top Knot:  This style works well on medium to long lengths of dry hair.  In the palm of your hands mix equal parts of P2 Potion and P2 Honey totaling a quarter size amount, mixing more as needed.  Working with dry hair, turn head upside down and start to gather hair towards the top of your head, working the product throughout and over the hair as you go.

No worries if a few curls fall here and there.  Once you have about 90% of the hair gathered, secure in a clear hairband.  Loosely twist ponytail around itself and then loosely twist around the hairband and secure with a few hairpins.  Pull a few curls loose to give the bun a loose look.  P2 Potion helps reduce frizz while P2 Honey with natural honey derivatives gives control.

Face Framing Mini Braids:  This is a quick chic look to whip up when you are in the hurry but want to add that something special to your look!  Working with dry hair, take two small sections, one on either side of the part at the hairline and back an inch or so.

Mix dime size amounts of P2 Honey and P2 RepairHair onto your fingertips and smooth onto each section just prior to braiding.  Smooth on from the top close to the roots all the way to the ends of the hair in that section.  Do a traditional braid and tie off at the end with a small clear hairband.

P2 Honey provides control while P2 RepairHair strengthens, smooths, and reduces frizz with its fortifying plant derived, high-tech microemulsions.  You can also use both products in wet hair to style curly hair into springy sweet curls!

Trend Alert ~ Warm Hair Color ~ by Nikki B.

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

While the temperatures cool down, hair color warms up this season.  Warm blondes, auburn highlights and pumpkin toned balayage heat up the fall and winter months.  Actress and singer Zendaya and Modern Family star Ariel Winter are both wearing the latest tone of this trend, burnt orange.

Warmer hues tend to fade faster, so for at-home maintenance use the super color protecting shampoo and conditioner; P2 by Philip Pelusi Fade de Phy Shampoo and Fade de Phy Conditioner.  This duo’s color sealing Willow Bark and other color protecting ingredients help protect from color fadage up to 80% in between touch ups.

For additional color protection, we highly recommend applying the in-shower strengthener P2 DailyHaiRx Xtreme Hair Repair after every shampoo to help seal in color.  If hair is porous, color molecules can easily escape whenever hair is exposed to water and heat styling.  P2 Xtreme contains a plant protein microemulsion to help lock in the color molecules deep inside the hair strand as well as help repair damage.

If longer or coarser tresses need more moisture this fall and winter, top this off with our P2 Deep Hydrating Hair and Scalp Treatment.  The powerful skincare humectant Hyaluronic Acid is deposited into the scalp and hair, replenishing lost moisture, and helping hair resist blow-dryer damage.  Healthy hair is hydrated hair!

If you are on the go or need an extra layer of strength and protection, try P2 by Philip Pelusi Smart Styling Treatment RepairHair.  This incredible hair enhancing product contains plant derived high-tech microemulsions that add strength, shine, and bounce to any hair texture.  Apply before any other styling products, starting with damaged ends working up to the roots.

We also recommend skipping tradition shampooing a couple of times a week with a no-suds cleansing product.  Our P2 Clenz Crème No Sudsing Cleansing Conditioner lightly cleanses with Philip’s exclusive Sugar Cane Cleanse microemulsion while never leaving hair in a too-clean state to help preserve color.  P2 Clenz Crème is specially formulated with Philip’s new proprietary Pelusi Bio Polymer Complex containing Organic Baobab Seed Protein and Organic Baobab Seed Oil to help improve hair’s condition and texture.

Trend Alert ~ Curtain Bangs ~ by Nikki B.

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

If KC and The Sunshine Band songs start playing in your head when viewing the Curtain Bang trend for this Fall, it is no wonder!  This very 70’s-esque fringe style boasts long bangs with a curved center part, giving it that casual good vibe feel.  Best on finer to medium textures, this is one style that works best when the hair is silky, less stiff, nor rigid from a tough blowout.

Image Source: Elizabeth Olsen Taylor Hill Getty Images Pinterest

Curtain Bangs are soft and flowing and often paired with a long shag haircut or this season’s Clavicut.  But because the Curtain Bang area is much shorter in comparison to the rest of the haircut this allows scalp oils to reach the ends more quickly.  Therefore, they may need shampooing more frequently, even possibly daily, especially fine textures.

Cleansing bangs with a shampoo extending cleansing product, like our P2 by Philip Pelusi DeTox Shampoo Treatment, helps hair and scalp stay cleaner longer.  This shampoo gives the scalp and hair a gentle color safe cleanse while its proprietary Micro Emulsion, the Philip Pelusi Ivy Rocket Blend, with Ivy, Rocket Leaf, Watercress and Whortleberry, puts the scalp in Ph balance.  This helps slow down the production of scalp sebaceous oils while creating shine and body.

Cleansing just your Curtain Bangs area can be tricky.  So, we recommend looping this fringe cleanse in with a face cleansing routine.  Right before cleansing the face, tie longer hair back, away from the face, leaving the fringe area out.  Next, wet fringe and shampoo, rinse thoroughly at the sink, ring dripping water and clip back.  Follow with your normal face cleansing routine, to remove any scalp debris that might have landed on the face.  Follow with skin care and hair care applications then style the fringe area as usual.  By the way we recommend, P2 by Philip Pelusi PURE Skin Care products too!

But if there is no time to shampoo, try a couple mists of our P2 Lite Leave-In Conditioner.  This weightless hydrator makes hair slightly damp, so have your blow-dryer ready for a quick style adjustment or simply airdry if that’s your usual routine.  P2 Lite contains the skin care humectant Hyaluronic Acid to help rejuvenate hair’s condition while acting as a heat protectant.

And for super shortcut to a fringe redo, we recommend a hair refresher and texturizing combo, our P2 by Philip Pelusi RefresHair Smart Styling Treatment and Texture Spray.  This acts as a hair fragrance and style refresher all in one!  White Tea and Thyme freshen the hair’s scent, helping to neutralize any odors.  We often have guests purchase this for the fragrance alone as a hair “perfume”.  But P2 RefresHair offers so much more.  Sunflower provides shine and heat protection when touching up hair with a flat or curling iron.  The formula overall is designed to boost texture while UV protectants help filter harmful sunrays.

Trend Alert ~ Clavicuts ~ by Nikki B.

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

Never has the clavicle been given this type of attention.  Chin length or long hair seems to have been more of the mainstays when it comes to hair lengths.  But this season, hair lengths that stop at the clavicle are all the rage.  Textures for this trend can run the gamut from smooth to wavy depending on the natural texture or style mood.  Also, these cuts can feature fringe or not.  It’s the length of the hair that takes center stage with this trend.

Here at Philip Pelusi, our stylists are cutting these trendy hairdos with our exclusive Volumetric™ The Pelusi Method haircutting system.  Philip created this organic cutting system to take into consideration the following factors: texture, density, growth patterns, fall lines and the shape of the head.  In other words, we are creating a custom cut for every client.

And just as the Volumetric® The Pelusi Method haircut should be customized for the guest, so should their texture-enhancing product.  We recommend one of three of the P2 by Philip Pelusi Smart Styling Treatments, P2 Increase, P2 Decrease or P2 ReCurl, to help create the desired texture of the guest’s Clavicuts.

For fine texture Clavicuts that needs some volume such as Taylor Swift, we recommend our P2 by Philip Pelusi Increase Smart Styling Treatment.  It contains a proprietary blend, including Philip’s Hydro Charged Pelusi Ceramide Complex that helps add a starch like crispy texture to sparse fine hair helping it retain its body.

For medium texture Clavicuts and hair with a slight wave or curl that needs a little encouragement such as Margot Robbie, we recommend our P2 by Philip Pelusi ReCurl Smart Styling Treatment.  It contains a proprietary blend, including Silk, Wheat and Vegetable Proteins, that helps provide the perfect harmony of more body and less frizz for medium hair types and wavy or curly hair that gets frizzy in humid weather.  It also helps spring up natural curl and waves!

For coarse thick texture Clavicuts that need some bulk reduction and frizz control like Kerry Washington, we recommend our P2 by Philip Pelusi Decrease Smart Styling Treatment.  It contains a proprietary multi-fruit blend of Whortleberry, Lemon and Orange that act as a secret weapon for too big, too full hair types that expand in humidity helping resist the penetration of moisture in the air.

P2 Smart Styling Treatments can be used alone or layered on first prior to another styling groom.  These unique products work from the inside of the hair strand instead of the outside depositing texture transforming ingredients that not only make hair easier and quicker to style but help your style last longer throughout the day in more humid weather.

Trend Alert ~ Ice Blonde Hair Color ~ by Nikki B.

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

Another hot trend for this season is really cool!  Ice Blonde Hair Color juxtaposes the usual warm fall hair colors!  Pale, almost translucent cool blondes ranging from icy white to a silver hue.  This look is an ultra glamourous, chic statement look.

Each Ice Blonde color starts with the same double platinum blonde base and can sometimes take several visits to achieve depending on how dark the natural base color.  Regular touch ups and toning are also part of the maintenance so keeping the hair is good condition is critical to pulling off this look and this means the very highest level of at-home TLC.

So, for at-home maintenance use the super color protecting shampoo and conditioner, P2 by Philip Pelusi Fade de Phy Shampoo and Fade de Phy Conditioner.  This duo’s color sealing Willow Bark helps protect from color fadage in between touch ups.

For additional color protection, we also highly recommend applying the in-shower strengthener P2 DailyHaiRx Xtreme Hair Repair after every shampoo.  High lift blonde hair is very porous, meaning color molecules can easily escape whenever hair is exposed to water and heat styling.  P2 Xtreme contains a natural plant protein micro-emulsion to help lock in the color molecules deep inside the hair strand as well as help repair damage.

We also recommend skipping tradition shampooing a couple of times a week with a no-suds cleansing product.  Our P2 Clenz Crème No Sudsing Cleansing Conditioner mildly cleanses with a small amount of Philip’s exclusive Sugar Cane Cleanse micro-emulsion, never leaving hair in a too-clean state to help preserve color.  P2 Clenz Crème is specially formulated with Philip’s new proprietary Pelusi Bio Polymer Complex containing Organic Baobab Seed Protein and Organic Baobab Seed Oil to help improve hair’s condition and texture.

And to help maintain cool icy blonde hue, use a color conditioner that adds a boost of that perfectly cool tone plus lots of shine.  See your Skill Certified Philip Pelusi Stylist for instructions on how to use P2 Color Boost Conditioner in Violet Orchid, Philip’s deposit-only color conditioner.  This can be done as an in-salon treatment, a Philip Pelusi Spa Hair Therapy, for an intense treatment or apply at home with your Philip Pelusi creamy instant or deep conditioner.

Trend Alert ~ Whip Braids ~ by Nikki B.

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

At the top of this year’s styling trend list are Whip Braids.  This is the opposite of the laidback beachy, messy, frizzy braids of the last few warmer seasons.  Instead, these low and long braids are tight, precise, slick and shiny.  Consider them a modern version of the 1980’s Robert Palmer “Simply Irresistible” music video or the style made famous by popular 80’s singer Sade.

This look works best on super long hair or medium length hair where extensions or a faux ponytail can be added.  Long hair is parted dead-center smoothed sleek to each side and tied in a low ponytail at the nape and braided into one long single braid.  But high crown ponytail braids are on trend too!  Bright pattern scarves can be woven into these braids as well for extra 80’s style power.

image source The Zoe Report Fernanda Calfat Getty Images

To achieve this glossy look, you need a 1-2 punch when it comes to styling products!  First, apply a moveable pliable hair groom to damp or dry hair from root to end.  Don’t be shy on application, more is better.  Try our P2 by Philip Pelusi Honey.  Honey Extracts help hydrate the hair and cuts down on friction when braiding helping protect the hair.  Pliability is important here because you want to be able to use a wide tooth comb through the hair next.  Comb hair all the way back off the face or create a side or center part and pull the hair back into a long and low or high and tight ponytail and secure with a hand band.

Next open a jar of a super hold hair gel.  We recommend our P2 Hard Stuff.  It is seven times firmer than any other gel on the marketplace.  Then take small equal amounts of P2 Honey and P2 Hard Stuff and mix on your fingertips and start your braid.  You will simultaneously be applying product while forming your braid and this makes braiding easier and last longer.

image source The Zoe Report Masato OnodaWWDShutterstock Mandatory Credit: Photo by Masato Onoda/WWD/Shutterstock (10403739cc) Model on the catwalk Christian Siriano show, Runway, Spring Summer 2020, New York Fashion Week, USA – 07 Sep 2019

Once you finish your braid secure the end with a hair band.  Then smooth fingertip amounts of the P2 Hard Stuff, glossing over the front of the hair smoothing in fine stay hairs with your fingertips and a fine-tooth comb.  If gel starts to harden, mist with a bit of water or our favorite P2 Lite Leave In Conditioner to rehydrate the hair.  Then continue combing and smoothing.  P2 Hard Stuff gives that glossy brilliant shine demanded by this style!  And viola’ your braid is done and ready to whip!

Trend Alert ~ Fall Hair Jumpstart Part II ~ by Nikki B.

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

There is always more we can do to help our guests “turn over a new leaf” when it comes to getting their hair ready for fall, rebooting their summer worn hair.  How about a new Fall hair color and better conditioned hair?!

Rehydrate parched summer hair!  Summer worn hair often lacks moisture so it’s time to dial up hydration.  Try P2 by Philip Pelusi Deep Hydrating Hair and Scalp Treatment.  This super moisturizing treatment helps restore dry hair and scalp to a softer, more-healthy state and helps put hair in a better hydrated condition for fall hairstyles.

Its moisture binding, skin care humectant Hyaluronic Acid is perfect for medium to thick textures and works incredibly well in adding moisturize to dry, parched scalps.  Hyaluronic Acid draws and binds moisture to both skin, scalp, and the hair!  Philip was the very first to use this ingredient in a haircare product.  A perfect pairing!

Get strong!  Adding an extra layer of strength and protection every time you style your hair is easier than you think.  Try P2 by Philip Pelusi Smart Styling Treatment RepairHair.  This incredible hair enhancing product contains natural plant derived, high-tech microemulsions that help seal in hair color, add strength, shine, and bounce to any hair texture.

Apply a dime to nickel size amount before any other styling products, starting with damaged ends working up to the roots and style-away!  Works well on any texture and a great guest recommendation to go along with any new hair color for fall!

Trend Alert ~ Fall Hair Jumpstart Part I ~ by Nikki B.

Summer weather brings warm temperatures and sunshine, but this can often mean hair is not quite up to par for your chic Fall hairstyle and color.  Faded color, dry ends and perhaps product build-up; just to name a few.  So, it’s time to give hair a jumpstart to get the next season of fabulous fall hair fashions off to the right start.

Turn over a new Fall leaf!  Cleanse away any summer product build-up, oil or debris with a deep cleansing shampoo treatment.  Try P2 by Philip Pelusi DeTox Shampoo Treatment.  We recommend this treatment be done in the salon for a more intense effect and then followed up with at-home use for the best results.

This hair and scalp treatment shampoo gently cleanses without stripping while helping control excess oil secretions with Philip’s proprietary Ph-balancing Pelusi Rocket Ivy Blend, a microemulsion of Rocket Leaf, Ivy, Watercress and Whortleberry.  Remarkably these natural ingredients help keep the scalp cleaner longer making this a life-changing product for those with naturally overly oily scalps.  Its color safe and leaves hair feeling silky with tons of shine.

Switch up your shampoo frequency!  Even when cleansing with a perfectly formulated shampoo, dry summer hair can use a break from traditional cleansing to allow for natural oils to travel down the hair shaft.  This shampoo-break can also give hair color a break from bubbles.  Try P2 by Philip Pelusi Clenz Crème.

Alternating with this no-suds cleansing conditioner can help keep color from fading.  It’s cutting edge formula, containing hydrating Organic Baobab Seed Oil, doesn’t lather, adds color protecting ingredients and helps create a lustrous shine.  Hair feels smooth and silky.
