One could say a Space Odyssey contrasts the 1990’s for hair and ingredient trends for Fall 2024.  One reason is a big consumer trend for the love of new technologies such as AI, Alexa, Shopify, and even robots to assist in just about everything from creating a presentation in Canva, to face recognition security, to shopping online.

Consumers, even when trepidatious, feel this makes everything faster, more efficient, and smarter.  So it makes sense that today’s consumers are also demanding their hair care product and ingredient technology follow suit.

Now juxtapose this to today’s Fall 2024 hair trends, which harken back to the 1990’s.  The hair and even clothing popular today makes us think we’re living a real-life episode of Friends or channeling our inner Mia Wallace (Pulp Fiction).  At Philip Pelusi, we marry this 90’s rebirth with what we feel is our smarter hair care technology to date. “Alexa, help, I need micro bangs with Einstein’s IQ, stat!”

2024 is considered the year of the bob by many beauty blogs.  Although one could argue the 1990’s would hold this honor.  One look that we find most intriguing is the 90’s bob revival of the Blunt Bob, now coined by some as the Prada Bob.

Pantone’s Color of The Year for 2024 is Rooibos Tea, so it’s no surprise it echoes one of the hottest hair color trends for this fall season, Rose Crimson.  And Pantone’s color description as a “full bodied red” accurately describes this now trending hair color, a new twist on the traditional “go warm” red for fall.

Today star singer Dua Lipa and more are sporting this deep jeweled crimson hue showing it works well on pretty much all skin tones, especially with a talented colorist at the helm to adjust the warmness or coolness within this hue.

Healthy looking hair never goes out of style but for Spring 2024 it’s a foundational mind shift, and surprisingly it seems both clients and stylists are on the same page from the get-go.  We’re seeing a positive shift with consumers not only willing but wanting to put the work in up front before even getting to their styling product application.

And although some of this season’s trends are worn with fantasy colors, light blonde and more, a mainstay look for Spring 2024 is Natural Brunette.  One of the most noteworthy examples of this brunette shade worn by style chameleon actress and singer Zendaya’s recent beautiful baroque bob which has that old Hollywood glam vibe.

Once considered a more traditional hue, this season brunette hair color is one of the ‘it’ trends.  Stars such as Riley Keough, Miley Cyrus and even Emma Stone, who normally dons her signature red locks, have all been wearing deep brunette hair color.

This Spring brunette hues look rich luxurious and are being worn either with warm or cool tones.  Warm brunette hair colors include chestnut, cinnamon, caramel, and mocha.  While cooler tones connote ash, hazelnut, iced coffee, and smoky brown.  Application techniques can be solid all over color or balayage and other lower maintenance colors.

Although some of this season’s trends are worn smooth and chic such as a blunt cut bob, most looks for Spring 2024 call for volume and body.  This seems true of both natural textures and hot tooled styles alike.  One of the most noteworthy examples of this big volume trend is style chameleon actress and singer Zendaya’s recent beautiful baroque bob which has that old Hollywood glam vibe.

Today’s current 70’s haircut vibe brings along a really big styling trend.  Big being the operative word!  Harkening back to the Charlie’s Angles actresses in the 1970’s, full, voluminous, round brush blowouts paired with big roller sets create this season’s hot styling trend Bouncy Blowouts.  A present-day homage to Farrah Fawcett, this hot styling trend also looks great when paired with today’s 70’s butterfly, curtain, and side swept bang trends and looks amazing with dimensional bright blonde and light brunette hues.

To get this look, some texture management will most likely be needed.  Bouncy Blowouts are just that, blown out smooth but with lots of big fluffy volume.  So, finer textures will most likely need help with lift at the root and more texture and structure throughout the entire head.  And medium to coarser textures will need addition slip and smoothness but without weighting the hair down.  Bouncy Blowouts are light and airy, so even though the hair texture will mostly likely need some support, the overall look should appear effortless without the look of too much product.
