BuZZworthy @ Philip Pelusi ~ Ultra Modern Wedge

Posted on Posted in BuZZworthy

The year was 1969 when Philip got inspired to create this ahead of its time short wedge haircut on this beautiful natural texture hair.  The hair is a soft, structured sculpture that pairs perfectly with this model’s delicate feminine facial features.  Exquisite!

The wedge haircut was one of the hottest looks of the 70’s but as always Philip was designing this beautiful look years before plying his mad Volumetric The Pelusi Method Haircutting skills to achieve perfection!

Philip shares, “My inspiration was the natural texture haircut movement of the 70’s which was creating dynamic shapes uniting the hair shape with the fabric of the hair.  The natural curl trend exploded in popularity from the late 70’s into the 80’s.  It was a new beauty aesthetic pioneered by models and artists like Grace Jones.”

BuZZworthy @ Philip Pelusi ~ High Life

Posted on Posted in BuZZworthy

We are going back to the early 2000’s with this iconic photoshoot with Philip, Jeffrey R and Nikki B.  One model and 6 different looks with otherworldly hair and makeup.  Each look portraying a different mood and persona.  Simply put, a shapeshifter wearing multiple styles of hair, makeup and clothing.

Nikki shares, “This was one of our most creative shoots with makeup.  We wanted the looks to have an otherworldly feel.  I got a lot of inspiration from the original Blade Runner movie.  I loved Sean Young in her role as Rachael, a replicant.  The collaboration between Philip, Jeffrey and me, all of us such perfectionists, was so fun and we had an amazing time transforming this beautiful model into so many different looks.  She was like a chameleon with each outfit, hairstyle and makeup.”

Many of the images pictured below were published in print, with this live link as one of the only still on the internet back in the day… Philip Pelusi’s The High Life – Behindthechair.com

BuZZworthy @ Philip Pelusi ~ Mousse Call

Posted on Posted in BuZZworthy

Philip’s P2 Liquid Mousse is legendary.  In the 80’s Philip created his first version of this formula (picture here) to give the hair maximum hold.  A perfect fit for the ‘bigger hair the better’ styles of that time.  It was coconut scented and was the first mousse to be packaged in an aerosol-free bottle.  It contained a Silk Protein to help strengthen the hair and it still does to this day!  But there’s more…

As with every Philip Pelusi formula, P2 Liquid Mousse has evolved in ingredient technology to flow with hair trends over the years.  Today’s formula echoes the original formulation, meaning it can still be used like a traditional mousse.  The packaging for example is still aerosol-free.

Philip’s Mousse muse circa the 1980’s!

But no need to tip the bottle over, as Philip updated it to an easy to press and pump dispenser that literally blows bubble into the liquid formula as it leaves the bottle.  This creates the foamy mousse feel but without any of the harmful or drying carcinogens that go along with aerosol dispensers.  Plus, Philip created the original formula to be alcohol free and water soluble (means zero buildup after cleansing) and it still is today.

The formula has been updated too now with a softer hold containing Silk Protein, Calcium, Zinc and Yeast Protein Derivatives, Hydrating Proprietary Microemulsions, Sunscreen, Allergen Free White Tea and Thyme Fragrance plus it’s now Silicone-free!

Product Education Director Nikki shares, “The 1980’s version of Philip Liquid Mousse was my everyday go-to product to scrunch and style my hair.  It totally fit my 80’s big hair vibe.  The bottle was so cool, to apply you simply turned the bottle upside down and squeezed to get the liquid formula to turn into a foam.  Everyone on my college dorm floor wanted to use it!”

BuZZworthy @ Philip Pelusi ~ Making Waves

Posted on Posted in BuZZworthy

The 1970’s were the start of a huge permed hair trend that lasted long into the 80’s!  The bigger the better when it came to volume and curls.  This also marked the introduction of the Philip Pelusi VoluWave Collection of perm formulations and techniques designed by Philip himself.

There were a variety of formulas depending on your starting texture and the designed results be it waves or curls or anything in between.  The application techniques included unique rod sizes, specific placement for maximum volume, plus diligent application steps that included a full “timer set” 5-minute rinse time, 5-minute pat-dry with paper towels and an application of P2 DailyHaiRx before the neutralizer.  This all made for a beautiful long-lasting perm leaving the hair looking healthy and shiny!
