This timeless Philip Pelusi design was inspired by 1920’s Film Noir but created for the modern sensibilities of the 1970’s. This totally unique Philip Pelusi Volumetric creation has both geometric and architectural sensibilities.
The vibrant red color and sleek styling really makes the shape pop! Along with the luminescent shine created by healthy hair products and stealth styling. Seriously, one of the hottest looks of that decade. Photographed, by Philip himself, both in color and black and white, it harkens back to that dark, moody yet glamourous film making.

The year was 1966 and Philip Pelusi had just begun his career in hair. He was invited to make a formal presentation at NYC Educational for hairdressers, showcasing his cutting-edge fashion haircuts & designs. The vibe was office-chic clothing and coiffures.
Philip cut and styled his model showing the group the latest in hair trends and what was the beginnings of what would eventually be Philip’s trademarked Volumetric Haircutting The Pelusi Method. Here are two incredible shots from the event.

Morpheus, “Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.” Cool quote from one of the most famous movie series of the 1990’s that also helped set this sci fi-esque look and vibe from the era.
And these stunning looks, created by Philip and his Design Team, echo this strong 90’s sensibility but with a feminine intricate updo to juxtapose the stern tough clothing provided by Shadyside’s Max Alto.
Philip shares, “Modern meets medieval was our theme for this shoot we did as part of collection for a European magazine.”

From the creative genius of Philip Pelusi Creative Director Jeffrey Reitz! Presenting the Duck Parade at Philip Pelusi! This cool team building exercise was Jeffrey’s brainchild to boost Designer creativity and just plain have fun, creating these unique looks of duck couture and coiffure. Everything including hair, makeup and clothing, each salon was assigned a duck to create a unique look in homage to many popular superstars of that era.

The Philip Pelusi Salon Design Teams created Duckatella Vesace, Vera Wing, Karl Duckerfeld, Christian Duckboutin, Duck Dior, Duck Gaultier, Ducky Cleopatra in honor of Beyoncé’s character as Foxxy Cleopatra in the then popular movie Austin Powers, plus a duck created in Philip’s likeness (2nd duck from the right on the top row). Check out the Philip-esque hair, spectacles, and suit!
And kudos, the images were published in American Salon Magazine and the ducks went on tour to NYC Mercedes Benz Fashion Week presented at the Tela Design Studio! That’s just ducky!
Designer and Talent Development Trainer Regina at The Block was part of salon team participants and still absolutely raves about the event.
Regina shares, “We all had a blast! Ross Park (now The Block) was inspired by Victoria Secret’s fantasyangel wings and diamonds. We were all given just a plain white lawn duck. Each salon had one and I remember meeting up a few times to work on it. It was team building because we all worked together and it got the creative juices flowing. I think there might have been some hair and craft stuff to choose from at The Philip Pelusi Center for Talent Development but I think we went to Michaels and other craft stores to get supplies. We had a lot of fun doing this project and it was hilarious presenting them.”

These incredible hair sculptures were created by Philip and his Design Team in 1983. All handcrafted, some were flexible twists created from the model’s own hair while others were created by twisting real or artificial hair around a pieces of wire. Truly works of living art!
Philip shares, “We were invited by Modern Salon Magazine to be featured as part of a continuing series by Philip Pelusi. So we created these sculpted twisted looks for the feature. We used P2 Soft Wax gently heated with a hairdryer to spread through the hair with a touch of P2 Fluid Spray as well, then twisted and placed under a hooded dryer for 15 minutes. Interestingly I shot these photos in black and white with an old Polaroid camera!”
