A Philip Pelusi Micro Class – Shine Factor

Posted on Posted in Micro Classes

Today matte rules the runway for makeup and nail trends.  Blurred matte lips, skin and nails are all the rage.  But glossy, shiny, lustrous hair never goes out of style!  And even when the cut, color, and condition are all on point, hair needs a finishing pop of shine to take it to the next level.

Here is when you can reach for P2 by Philip Pelusi BrilliantHair and P2 by Philip Pelusi Polish!  But even though they both product incredible shine, these products perform very differently on the hair depending on density and texture even with a somewhat similar ingredient structure.

Both are Silicone Free and Vegan.  They contain Tomato Fruit Extract loaded with fortifying vitamins and minerals including Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Zinc, Copper, Selenium, Vitamin B6, B12 and Folate (a form of Vitamin B9).  Tomato Fruit Extract is also rich in antioxidants Vitamins A, C and E that help protect hair strength and chemically and color treated hair.

Organic Baobab Seed Oil hydrates, creates lustrous shine and provides heat protection and frizz reduction.  Philip chooses the gold standard cold-pressed Organic Baobab Seed Oil meaning it retains its nutritional value during processing.  It is rich with Vitamin D3 and 5 Fatty Acids that nourish and moisturize hair and scalp without weighing down hair.

The Hydro Charged Pelusi Ceramide Complex joins the ingredient listing giving both products next-level color protection.  This is a universal-texture complex of plant derived ceramides mimics the ceramides (known as lipids) found in between cuticle layers.  It helps seal each cuticle layer to each other and to the cortex helping seal in color molecules below.  This proprietary mixture strengthens, hydrates, helps protect color and creates shine.

Jojoba Oil joins their ingredient lineup, derived from the seeds of the Simmondsia chinensis plant, a shrub native to AZ, CA, and northern Mexico.  It possesses excellent healing and hydrating properties as well as providing heat protection, shine and detangling.

Squalane has also been added to the formula as a key source of antioxidants beneficial to hair color preservation.  Extracted from various plants, vegetables, and grains, Squalane also provides moisture and increased shine.

Trend Alert ~ Expensive Brunettes

Posted on Posted in Trend Alerts

by Nikki ~ Product Education Director

Hairstyles go Vogue while Ingredients go Rogue for 2025!  And styling is making a comeback for 2025.  Over the last several years we have been slowly moving away from the “at home” looks of the pandemic and now, it seems, even past the extremely low maintenance looks that followed.  And although airdrying and a minimalistic styling ethos still has its place, trends for 2025 involve a little more effort.  And happily, clients seem willing to step up their styling game.

And along with this mentality, styling product use gets a boost in popularity for 2025 too.  Consumer demand is still up for earth safe formulations as well as scalp and hair treatment ingredients in just about every product applied.  But also the mindset to purposefully apply a product to achieve a specific styling result has returned to the trend scene in full force.  So we welcome the challenge to help our clients achieve their luxuriant brunette hues along with 2 going-strong haircutting trends that are reaching next-level status for 2025.

Hair and Photo by Philip Pelusi and Philip Pelusi Design Team

We’ve gone through years of blondes or fantasy colors taking the forefront in hair trends.  And most certainly these continue to be strongly relevant for 2025.  But the more predominant hair color trend for this year is Expensive Brunette hair color.  This moniker simply reflects the rich warm earthy tones of this trend along with the hair color’s healthy appearance of depth and shine.

Hair and Photo by Philip Pelusi and Philip Pelusi Design Team

There have been many notable transformations to this hue namely model Kaia Gerber transitioning from light honey highlighted hair to donning a new look of deep, rich chocolate glaze hair color.  Also Canadian actress Shay Mitchell recently went from the still popular copper hair color trend to a deep, lush brunette hue.

Expensive Brunettes open a wide variety of popular applications from solid all over hair color with depth and shine to deep caramel highlights or balayage techniques depending on the desired look.  But no matter the technique, this trend requires lustrous high-quality looking hair fabric.  For our clients a little magic is required, specifically our Tela Beauty Organics by Philip Pelusi Magic Hair Transformer.

We expanded the name of this product to a well-fitting descriptor of Tela Beauty Organics Magic Hair Transformer, Exquisite Hair Texture Fabric Rejuvenator because it virtually transforms the hair into something truly magical.  Key ingredient Pongamia Glabra (Karanja) Seed Oil plays a big role in creating this result.  It is derived from the seeds of the Millettia Pinnata tree, native to South and Southeast Asia, it contains 9 fatty acids that nourish, moisturize, and act as antiaging, slip, and heat protection agents.

Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil been used in Ayurvedic medicine to calm and heal skin issues, so it helps the scalp as well.  And Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil adds shine, UV protection, plus has natural antimicrobial, soothing, and antioxidant benefits thus helping to protect hair’s strength and hair color from fading.

And as always, we also looked to science in creating this hair transforming wonder to significantly improve the internal structure of the hair.  We added the patented chemistry of Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide to Tela Magic.  This natural origin bond multiplier strengthens damaged hair fiber three times more than untreated hair.  As we know, damaged hair has compromised or broken Disulfide as well as broken Hydrogen Bonds and other linkages.

Penetrating deep into the cortex to create new hydrogen and ionic bonds, Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide rejuvenates both damaged beta-keratin as well as strengthens undamaged alpha keratin, resulting in greater overall breakage resistance.  Another great side benefit of this incredible ingredient is that it has a good sustainability footprint.

And lastly, for our Expensive Brunette hair color clients, we also are recommending a color enhancing conditioner with our P2 by Philip Pelusi Color Boost in Chocolate Wildberry.  This warm toned deep brunette shade can be mixed with any in-shower conditioner or straight onto the hair depending on the intensity of the effect you are looking for.  And the longer you leave it on, the deeper the stain on the hair.  P2 Color Boost doesn’t take the place of hair color but when applied to similarly hued color treated hair or natural hair color, it gives a boost of warm brunette color enhancement.

BuZZworthy @ Philip Pelusi ~ Volumetric Haircutting Circa 1966

Posted on Posted in BuZZworthy

Recognize this young fellow?  Yep, that’s Philip Pelusi circa 1966 teaching one of his 1st classes!  Invited to PBA (Pittsburgh Beauty Academy), he, along with Designer Ana Marie, did a big classroom training that was the beginning of Volumetric® The Pelusi Method Haircutting Training as well as sculpting hair shapes & hair crafting techniques.

Philip shares… “This was one of the first classes I ever did.  We were teaching haircutting, the very start of Volumetric Training plus we taught how to create shapes with fake hair.  Plus we used long hair that we saved from major haircuts we did in the salon then made hairpieces with them.  The students were really into it.  This was of course was before fake hair and wigs were mass produced since this was around 1966.”

Here he is with his first salon team pictured with Ana Marie plus 2 updos from that time!

Tela Magic Transformative Ingredient ~ Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide

Philip added some big tech to Tela Magic!  This is where science meets nature, enabling us to significantly improve the internal structure of the hair and do what we believe also meets today’s marketplace needs by combining technology into a product with over-the-top organic cache.

Next, he added the patented chemistry of Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide to Tela Magic.  This natural origin bond multiplier strengthens damaged hair fiber three times more than untreated hair.

As we know, damaged hair has compromised or broken bonds and links.  Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide rejuvenates damaged hair back to the levels of virgin hair working deep into the cortex to create new hydrogen and ionic bonds.  Helping hair look, feel, and perform like healthy virgin hair.  The cherry on top of this incredible ingredient is that it has a good sustainability footprint.

This image shows the cross section of several hair strands before and after they have been treated.  The “after” image shows the intense penetration of this ingredient into the hair fiber, evidenced by an almost 100% penetration level.
